Tom Fiore sends an addendum:

Hi Marie, In a walk on Sunday Oct. 18 in Central Park, south end to north end and Fifth Ave. to Central Park West, I very conservatively counted 10,000 White-throated Sparrows in total throughout the park. Patches of good habitat in some locations held as many as 100 white-throateds per 100 square foot and there were many such patches. This number, while impressive, still does not come even close to a high maximum number of this species in a day in Central Park (that would be at least a factor of five times more). Best, Tom
