First-of-fall

It's getting to be that time , when ducks and other waterfowl  take the spotlight, and the Reservoir attracts birdwatchers more than the Ramble. Here's a communique from  a regular birdwatcher: 

Hello all,
Today in the morning there was a female/first winter Hooded Merganser
swimming near the southern pumphouse. It is the first-of-fall Merganser as
far as I know.
