Under the headline Sad News Don Riepe sent the following message in a mailing to birdwatchers and butterfly enthusiasts:

Another tragedy for the butterfly club and birding community of NYC.  Nick Wagerick was found dead at Battery Park. I don't know details. Word came from Mike Bonifanti and Charlie Roberto who let me know this afternoon. Nick was a superb naturalist who spent most of his time in Central Park. Years ago he ventured out to Jamaica Bay and Forest Park as well.  He, like Jeff Ingraham will be greatly missed.

PS from Marie

I'm still in a state of shock about this news. Nick was an important part of my life and work. You've read about him in both my Central Park books. I'll be posting more about Nick in the near future.

Dining in Central Park

Dining in Central Park is fine...

Whether you want to pick up a quick snack on the fly

Or plan a picnic on the grass with friends.

Photographed on the path to the Shakespeare Garden...
