KEVIN TOPPING writes his first post:
Happy New Year! This is my first post (I hope I'm not breaking any rules - let me know). This is my third year birding and I have had fun and learned a lot; and met a lot of great people in the process. I look forward to the year to come.
I had a great start with 36 species
Coots (have you ever seen their feet?)
Am. Goldfinch
Robins (dozens at Summit rock)
Baltimore Oriole (male for sure and what I believe after reading in books, a female)
Black-capped Chickadee
Bluejays
Brown Creeper
Brown-headed Cowbird (male)
Bufflehead (6 males and at least 3 females)
Canada Geese
Cardinal
Carolina Wren
Common Grackle
Dark-eyed Junco
Downy Woodpecker (male and female)
Starlings
Gadwall
Great Black-backed Gull
Hooded Merganzer (males and females)
House Finch
House Sparrow
Mallard Duck
Mourning Dove
Northern Flicker
Northern Shoveler
Pied-billed Grebe
Pigeon
Red-bellied Woodpecker
Red-tailed Hawk
Ring-billed Gull
Ring-necked Duck (was hanging with a couple mallards on east side of reservoir around 93rd street)
Ruddy Duck
Sharp-shinned Hawk (chasing the red-tailed hawk around)
White-breasted Nuthatch
White-throated Sparrow
Wood Duck (pair)
Happy Birding everyone.
